The experience

About this quest

The main attractions of the city can be enjoyed while exploring the game. Taking stops along the road is good, should that be desired.

Reykjavík boasts a wealth of historical sites, and the storyteller has dedicated a great deal of time and energy to crafting a humorous fictional narrative from the thrilling Viking Age.

I hope the overall experience brings you joy and love for my city!

Is this for you?

Who it's for

First-time visitors on a short stay or stopover get Reykjavík's main sights in one walk, from Hallgrímskirkja and Rainbow Street to Austurvöllur and the Hafnarhús art museum, all tied together by a funny fictional Viking Age story. Couples and families with school-age children will enjoy the puzzles over about two hours and 3.1 km. Anyone wanting a live guide to quiz about Viking history should pick something else.

Frequently asked questions

Does this walk cover the main highlights of Reykjavík?
Yes. In walking order you visit Hallgrímskirkja, Rainbow Street, the Statue of Ingólfur Arnarson, the Icelandic Penis Museum, Hafnarhús (Reykjavík Art Museum), Austurvöllur, the Old Parliament's Garden, IÐNÓ Culture House, Hljómskálinn Pavilion, the Mysterious Sitting Man and Fógetagarður. At each place the app tells its story and sets a puzzle.
Does the route include Rainbow Street?
Yes. Rainbow Street is the second stop, reached right after you start at Hallgrímskirkja. The app leads you there on your phone, tells you about the street and gives you a puzzle to solve using what you see around you.
Where does it start and finish, and how long does it take?
You start at Hallgrímskirkja and finish at Fógetagarður, the Sheriff's square, so it does not end where it began. The route is 3.1 km and most players take about two hours, walking and puzzles included. You can pause for a break and continue later.
Is there a Viking theme to the walk?
Yes. The storyteller has written a humorous fictional narrative set in the Viking Age that runs through the whole route, linking stops such as the Statue of Ingólfur Arnarson. It is meant to be light and funny rather than a dry history lesson.
Is it good for kids, and can we play as a group?
It is tagged family friendly and suits school-age children who can manage about two hours on foot and enjoy puzzles. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, and you start whenever you like with no time slot to book. The route passes the Icelandic Penis Museum, which some parents like to know beforehand.
