About this quest

Milan, in the time of Leonardo da Vinci. Something strange keeps happening in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie: the snake from the Sforza coat of arms vanishes from the fresco each morning. One night, Leonardo hides in the dark and catches the Devil himself at work.

A deal is struck. If you, his brightest student, can solve the Devil's riddles across Milan's streets, the artwork will be saved. If not, Leonardo's work is destroyed.

This self-guided walking tour takes you to 10 real locations connected to Leonardo's years in Milan: the Duomo, the Ambrosiana Library (home to his original Codex Atlanticus), the hidden crypt he called "the very centre of Mediolanum," and the vineyard Ludovico il Moro gave him as a gift.

A perfect Milan city game for history lovers, families, and anyone curious about the streets Leonardo actually walked. No booking required.

Highlights

  • Follow the Devil through 10 locations connected to Leonardo da Vinci's years in Milan, from the Duomo to the vineyard at Casa degli Atellani

  • Discover the Ambrosiana Library (home to Leonardo's original Codex Atlanticus), the crypt he called the centre of ancient Milan, and the palazzo where the Lady with an Ermine once lived

  • Uncover lesser-known Leonardo stories: the invention of the napkin, the restaurant he opened with Botticelli, and the vineyard he called "the divine liquor of grapes"

The mission: Your story in Milan

Every morning, returning to his fresco, Leonardo finds the same thing: the snake from the Sforza family's coat of arms has been removed. He draws it again. And again. Afraid his patrons will visit and find it missing.

One night, he waits in the dark. He watches. And he catches the Devil himself, removing the painted snake.

The Devil makes his terms clear:

"If your student can solve many a riddle,
I will be painted up the fresco in the very middle,
otherwise your work I will destroy
and no more colour you will enjoy."

Leonardo has accepted on your behalf. The Devil is waiting for you at the Duomo.
