About this quest

Milan, in the time of Leonardo da Vinci. Something strange keeps happening in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie: the snake from the Sforza coat of arms vanishes from the fresco each morning. One night, Leonardo hides in the dark and catches the Devil himself at work.

A deal is struck. If you, his brightest student, can solve the Devil's riddles across Milan's streets, the artwork will be saved. If not, Leonardo's work is destroyed.

This self-guided walking tour takes you to 10 real locations connected to Leonardo's years in Milan: the Duomo, the Ambrosiana Library (home to his original Codex Atlanticus), the hidden crypt he called "the very centre of Mediolanum," and the vineyard Ludovico il Moro gave him as a gift.

A perfect Milan city game for history lovers, families, and anyone curious about the streets Leonardo actually walked. No booking required.

Is this for you?

Who it's for

Puzzle and escape-room fans, couples and friends curious about Leonardo da Vinci will spend just over two hours solving the Devil's riddles to save his fresco. The 3.3 km walk leads from the Duomo past the Ambrosian Library and the Cripta di San Sepolcro to Casa Atellani, and plays best in daylight. Anyone who wants a live guide to quiz on Renaissance art, or a short indoor visit, should pick something else.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a Leonardo da Vinci escape room game in Milan?
It works like an outdoor escape game played on your phone. The story casts you as Leonardo's brightest student, who must solve the Devil's riddles across Milan's streets to save his fresco at Santa Maria delle Grazie. Each of the 10 real locations sets a puzzle in what is in front of you.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the Duomo di Milano and finishes at Casa Atellani, so it does not return to the start. Along the way you pass the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, Merchants Square, the Ambrosian Library, the Cripta di San Sepolcro and the Imperial Palace of Maximian, among other stops.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take just over two hours, walking and puzzles included, to cover about 3.3 km through the historic centre. The quest is best played during the day, so start with enough daylight left to reach the final stop at Casa Atellani.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so couples and friends can follow the story and work through the riddles side by side as they walk from stop to stop.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
There is no time slot to book, no group to join and no guide to meet. You start whenever you like, and you can pause the quest and continue later, which is handy if you want a coffee break between stops.
What’s the basic idea of this quest?

You follow clues around Milan to uncover hidden codes and stories about Leonardo da Vinci—his inventions, art, and secrets tied to the city.

Do I need to know a lot about Leonardo or history?

Nope. The game explains things as you go, so you can just enjoy the puzzles and discoveries.

Which Milan landmarks are part of the route?

Expect places connected to Leonardo, like the canals (Navigli), secret courtyards, and squares near the Duomo and Sforza Castle.

Leonardo in Milan

A Renaissance court where Leonardo worked

Under the Sforza court, Milan attracted artists and engineers including Leonardo da Vinci and Bramante. Leonardo worked for Ludovico il Moro and contributed to projects associated with Sforza Castle, including the painted decoration of the Sala delle Asse. The enigma is an original game story; Leonardo’s presence at the court and Milan’s role as a Renaissance center are historical. Playable languages: English, Italian, Dutch, German, French, Spanish.
