The adventure

About this quest

The city feels older tonight. Heavier. Like something has been waiting a very long time for someone to come asking.

You've been recruited by the Bureau of Otherworldly Observation, and Agent Howl is handing you your first case: a district full of the dead, and a file nobody has ever managed to close.

Thirteen stops. Thirteen things this city would rather you didn't look at too closely. Some of them are waiting for you.

The dead here were real people, and they remember what the plaques leave out. Ask the right questions and they'll tell you. Ask the wrong ones and you'll find out why the file is still open.

Keep your phone torch handy. You'll want it. 🕯️

Is this for you?

Who it's for

Couples, friends and small groups of adults who like ghost stories and dark history get thirteen stops, from Faneuil Hall to Copp's Hill Burying Ground, each with a story of the dead and a puzzle to solve, over close to two hours and 2.5 km. Anyone wanting a live guide to question, or bringing young children wary of tales of the dead, should choose something else.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the North End ghost walk start and finish?
It starts at Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park and finishes at the Great Molasses Flood Plaque, so it does not return to the start. On the way you pass Quincy Market, the Old State House, Faneuil Hall, the Paul Revere House, Old North Church and Copp's Hill Burying Ground.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take about 1 hour 45 minutes, including walking between the thirteen stops and solving the puzzles. The route covers about 2.5 km through the waterfront, the area around Faneuil Hall and the North End.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so couples, friends or a small group of adults can follow the route and work through the puzzles side by side on a phone.
Do we need to book a start time, and can we pause?
There is no set start time and no group to join, so you can begin whenever suits you, including in the evening. You can pause partway, stop for a drink or a meal along the route, and continue later.
Is it suitable for children?
The quest is built around ghost stories and the city's dark history, with the dead of the district as the main characters. It suits adults and older children who enjoy that kind of story more than young children, and the route is about 2.5 km on foot.
