About Visit Benidorm
The Visit Benidorm Information Centre is the town's tourist office, on Plaza de Canalejas in Benidorm, Alicante. It is a practical first stop for maps, local tips and a short introduction to how a small fishing village became one of Spain's best-known beach resorts.
The story behind it
Benidorm was a modest fishing community for most of its history. It began to draw visitors in the early 20th century, and in the 1950s it took off as a holiday destination, at first mostly for travellers from Madrid. Today it is known for its beaches, its hotels and its dense skyline of high-rise towers.
The resort now welcomes about as many visitors from abroad as from Spain, while the permanent population is a little over 70,000. The information centre sits in the middle of that story, and the creators of our routes describe it as a place with an interactive display on local history, activities and things to do. It is a good spot to get your bearings before you head out.
What to look for
- The interactive display inside, which gives a quick overview of Benidorm's history and what there is to do around town.
- The staff desk, where you can ask about activities, places to visit and getting around.
- The maps and leaflets, handy for planning a walk between the old town and the seafront.
- The contrast of the busy square and the high-rise skyline beyond, which says a lot about how quickly the resort grew.
Tips for your visit
- Allow 15 to 30 minutes if you want to look at the display and ask questions. Check current opening hours before you go.
- Go early in your stay, so the local advice can shape the rest of your plans.
- The old town and the beaches are close by on foot, so it works well as the start of a walk.
- If you have mobility needs, ask the staff what help or equipment is available locally.
See it on a quest
Playing The Lost Buccaneer: Treasures of the Old Town and Beaches in Benidorm is a good way to see this stop. You reach it on foot as one stop of a longer route through the old town and along the beaches. The app tells you about each place as you arrive and you solve a puzzle on the spot. One ticket covers the whole group.
If you prefer a darker tone, Murder Mystery: Death in the Shadows in Benidorm turns the same streets into a case to solve. You walk between places, hear about each one as you get there and work out a puzzle in front of you. One ticket covers the whole group.
Benidorm Detective Mystery: Infiltrate a Secret Society. is another self-guided option for exploring the town. You move from stop to stop at your own pace, learn about each place through the app and solve puzzles in the streets. One ticket covers the whole group.
