A once‑powerful barrier kept York’s countless ghosts quiet, but now fractures spread through its ancient magic. Restless spirits stir in shadowed streets as the Veil weakens.
Its guardian, Keeper Elspeth Crowe, has mysteriously vanished, taking the only ritual capable of mending the breach. Your task is to follow her fading trail through York’s haunted corners, uncover forgotten stories, solve eerie clues, and restore the Veil before midnight or the dead will rise unbound.
York history and folklore
Real medieval places inside a fictional broken veil
York’s long history gives its ghost stories unusually old settings. Clifford’s Tower is a medieval castle keep whose surviving stone structure dates mainly from the 13th century, while centuries of conflict, religion and urban life have produced a large body of local folklore. “Most haunted” is a popular description, not an official historical measurement. Keeper Elspeth Crowe and the magical Veil in this quest are fictional devices that lead you between real locations and stories associated with the city.
