Espionage and WWII history fans, including anyone fresh from the Spy Museum, can play Agent 23 and track a German spy from Lafayette Square, past the Treasury Building and the Washington Monument, to the World War II Memorial. It takes just under two hours, solving puzzles along the way, and is free to play. If you want a guide to quiz on wartime history, or a 2.4 km outdoor walk is too much, pick something else.

Where does the spy walk start and finish?
It starts at the General Von Steuben Statue in Lafayette Park and finishes at the World War II Memorial, so it does not return to the start. Along the way you pass Decatur House, The Hay-Adams, St. John's, the Treasury Building, Pershing Park and the Washington Monument.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take just under two hours, including walking and solving the puzzles at each stop. The route covers about 2.4 km, from Lafayette Square past the White House area and down to the National Mall.
Is it free, and can we play as a group?
Yes, it is free to play. Friends, couples or a family can follow the story of Agent 23 together, gathering at each landmark to read the clues and work out the puzzles as a team.
Do we need to book a time or join a tour group?
No. There is no group to join and no guide, so you can start whenever you reach the Von Steuben Statue in Lafayette Park. You can also pause partway through and continue later.
Is it outdoors, and what if it rains?
The game is played on foot between outdoor landmarks such as Pershing Park, the Washington Monument and the World War II Memorial, so dress for the weather. If rain sets in, you can pause the quest and pick it up again later.
