Netherlands

Utrecht is what Amsterdam was before the tourists arrived: a medieval canal city still living at its own pace, where locals outnumber selfie sticks and the afternoons stretch long at the water's edge. Questo turns that city into a puzzle you play on your own terms, with 4 self-guided quests that use the streets, stories, and strange details of Utrecht as the game board.

The character here is rooted in the Oudegracht, a canal with a lower wharf level where centuries-old cellars now hold some of the best cafes and restaurants in the country. The Dom Tower looms over all of it, the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, while the Pandhof Van de Dom garden hides quietly behind it. Utrecht rewards people who slow down and look twice.

Quests cover different moods: a monster mystery through the medieval streets, a missing bike caper with comic energy, a dark-magic storyline that turns familiar landmarks strange, and a fantasy adventure involving a basilisk and a cursed city. There is something here for families after an active afternoon, couples who want a story to share, and friend groups who like solving things together.

A few things worth knowing before you go: the Oudegracht wharf cellars are a destination in themselves, step down from street level and you are in a different city. Utrecht also holds the world's largest bicycle parking at its central train station, worth a look just to believe it. If you plan to climb the Dom Tower, book the tower climb in advance as spots fill early.
