Frequently asked questions

What is there to do in the Distillery District?
This walk takes you through 15 stops in the district, including Saulter Street Brewery, Brickworks Cider House, SOMA Chocolatier, Izumi Sake Brewery, several galleries and Spirit of York Distillery. Along the way you hear the history of beverage distilling in Toronto, look at the Victorian architecture and visit the favourite haunts of the local ghosts.
Is this a guided tour of the Distillery District?
No, it is self-guided and played on your phone. The app leads you from stop to stop, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, and you can start whenever you like without booking a time.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
The walk starts at Cherry Street Gate and covers about 3.1 km. Most people take around 80 minutes, though you can go at your own pace. It is best done during the day, and you can pause at any point, stop for coffee or chocolate, and continue later.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, it is recommended for families. Children who can manage a 3.1 km walk and enjoy spotting details in buildings will get the most from the puzzles. The stories touch on ghosts and explosions, told as local history rather than horror.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers your whole group, so friends or a family can walk the route together and work on each puzzle as a team. Since there is no fixed start time, the group can set off from Cherry Street Gate whenever everyone is ready.
Is Toronto’s Distillery District Highlights self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you between locations without a tour guide or fixed departure. You can start when it suits you and pause if needed.
Where does Toronto’s Distillery District Highlights start and finish?
It starts at Cherry Street Gate, 49 Tank House Lane, Toronto, ON M5A 3C4, Canada and finishes at Saulter Street Brewery, 31 Saulter St #1, Toronto, ON M4M 2H8, Canada. The route is approximately 3.1 km and includes 15 location-based puzzles.

This classic quest sells access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.

Distillery District context

Victorian industry preserved inside a modern cultural district

The Gooderham and Worts complex grew into a major 19th-century distilling operation, leaving an unusually large collection of Victorian industrial buildings. After production ended, the site was adapted as today’s pedestrian arts and entertainment district. This quest connects the surviving industrial landscape with stories from its working past; any ghostly associations are folklore, not verified history. Playable languages: English, French.
