Let's visit medieval Siena and be immersed in the mysterious world of the Contrade. What are they?

Contrade are both districts of the old city and communities of people. They emerged in the Middle Ages, for supply food and recruit troops hired by Siena. 

All significant events in the lives of the Sienese—births, weddings, holidays—take place within their native contrada. Each one has its own museum, fountain, square, and church. 

A contrada preserves its flag, coat of arms—much like a small state.
