Is this a ghost tour of Madrid?
It is a self-guided, ghost-themed walking game on your phone. You play as the ghost of the painter Diego Velázquez, following clues and solving puzzles to save his lost soul while passing landmarks such as Puerta del Sol and the Literary Quarter. There is no guide and no fixed departure time.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at the Real Church of Saint James and Saint John the Baptist and finishes at the Velázquez Monument by the Prado Museum, so it does not end where it began. Along the 2.7 km route you pass Plaza Ramales, the Monument to Philip IV, the Statue of Carlos III and the Theatro Español.
How long does it take, and when is the best time to play?
Most players take around 100 minutes, including walking and puzzles. It is best played at night, and some clues may need your phone flashlight. You can pause along the way and continue later.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes, one ticket covers the whole group playing together. There is no time slot to book and no group to join, so you can start whenever suits you and walk at your own pace.
Do we go inside any of the buildings on the route?
No. The stops are viewed from outside, and entering the places is not part of the experience. Some checkpoints may have temporary construction work nearby, so expect the occasional change to what you see around a stop.
What’s a fresh and fun thing to do in Madrid with toddlers?
Walk through Retiro Park, check out street artists around Puerta del Sol, and try one of the easy Questo games made for kids—lots of bright clues and no scary stuff. You control the pace, so stop for ice cream whenever.
