CONFIDENTIAL / CASE BRIEFING

The story starts here.

"When I die I will be reborn in paradise, and all those I have killed will become my slaves."

Decades ago, the Zodiac Killer carved those words into history then vanished into the fog. The case went cold. The city moved on. Until last night.

A high-security police vault has been breached. The thief ignored the cash and the narcotics but he took only one thing: the original Zodiac evidence files. Now a copycat calling himself The Disciple has scattered the 1969 artifacts across the city and marked innocent citizens for "collection," determined to finish what his Master started.

You're on the task force. Twelve locations, each tied to a Zodiac sign. No set order, only your instincts. And beware: some of them are traps designed to waste your precious time.

🔎 Crack the Zodiac's infamous ciphers, recover the stolen artifacts, and save the victims before the clock runs out. The ink is fresh, the knife is sharp, and the city is screaming for answers.

Is this for you?

Who it's for

True-crime fans, couples planning a date night with a twist and groups of friends will get a dark detective game built on the real Zodiac case: you track a copycat called The Disciple across Phoenix, solving puzzles at each place over about 90 minutes and 2 km on foot. If a story about a serial killer and marked victims sounds too grim, or you want an indoor escape room with a host, pick something else.

What makes this quest special

Highlights

  • A copycat is finishing what the Zodiac started, and The Disciple is working his way through Phoenix.

  • Decode the real thing, cryptic notes, punched cards and symbol-filled messages built from the Zodiac's actual letters.

  • Twelve marked locations across 2 km from East Washington Street, past Chase Field, Orpheum Theatre, and Phoenix Convention Center, in no fixed order, and some of the pins are traps.

  • For true crime readers, played with your partner, your friends, or on your own if the ciphers are the draw.

  • Just your phone, start any time, and trust your gut more than the map.

Frequently asked questions

Can we play this in Phoenix today?
Yes. There are no booked time slots, so you can start whenever you like, today or any other day. Open the game on your phone at the starting point and the app leads you from place to place. Plan on around 90 minutes and about 2 km of walking.
Is this a good thing to do in Phoenix tonight?
It can be. The game starts any time you choose, with no group or guide to meet, and the dark Zodiac storyline suits an evening out with friends or a date. Allow around 90 minutes for the walk and the puzzles, and you can pause and continue later if needed.
How is this different from a Zodiac Killer escape room?
Instead of a booked room, you play outdoors on your phone, walking about 2 km through the city while the app tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. You hunt the 1969 artifacts scattered by The Disciple, start whenever you like and take around 90 minutes.
Can we play as a group, and can we take a break?
Yes on both. One ticket covers your whole group, so friends or couples can solve the case together. There is no live guide or set schedule, and you can pause the game at any point and continue later from where you stopped.
Is it suitable for children?
It is aimed at adults. The story follows a copycat of the Zodiac Killer who has marked innocent citizens for collection, so the tone is dark. Teenagers who enjoy true crime may like it, but younger children are likely to find the theme too grim and the 90-minute walk long.
Is The Zodiac Mystery: Catching the Disciple in Phoenix self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you between locations without a tour guide or fixed departure. Start when it suits you and pause if needed.
Where does The Zodiac Mystery: Catching the Disciple in Phoenix start and finish?
It starts at Starting Point and finishes at Ending Point.
How many accesses does our group need?
This classic quest sells access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.
