About this quest

Madrid is stalked by remnants and nightmares of the Spanish Inquisition. You just need to pierce its thin modern veneer.

Following in the footsteps of Juana Picazo, a real folk healer persecuted and arrested by the Inquisition, revisit beloved landmarks like the Plaza Mayor, the San Miguel Market, and the streets of La Latina, and help her escape before the guards realize she is gone.

This self-guided walking tour of Madrid's Old Town takes you through the darkest chapter of Spain's history, told through the eyes of a woman who lived it. One of the most historically immersive escape games in Madrid. Play it and you will never see the city the same way again.

Highlights

    - Help Juana Picazo, a real 18th-century healer condemned as a witch, escape through Madrid's streets before the Inquisition realizes she is missing - Walk Bitterness Street into the Plaza Mayor, visit the Mercado de San Miguel, and stand at the former execution sites of the Spanish Inquisition - Discover how the Christian walls still hide inside Madrid's modern buildings, and learn what the coroza, sambenito, and rollo jurisdiccional were used for - Follow Juana through La Latina to the street that was renamed in her honor, and find out why a street in Madrid still carries her name today

The mission: Your story in Madrid

You must rescue your sister, the 18th century healer Juana Picazo, from the dungeons of the Inquisition before she is publicly shamed and burned at the stake.

She's been healing people for years using natural practices, but someone was not satisfied and condemned her to the Inquisition.

Calling her Satan's bride, they've shaved her head, and the next step is to mount her on a donkey and parade her around the city to be insulted and hit by the devout masses. That could easily kill her.

When you learned she'd been detained, you travelled to Madrid from your home in La Mancha to help her. However, you don't know the city well, and Juana can barely see after her harsh treatment.

You'll have to be her eyes as you cross Madrid together and guide Juana safely to her apartment in La Latina, so she can pack her things and flee the city!
