Quests for classes

Quests a class can play in Prague

A Questo school day in Prague is spent mostly on foot in the Old Town. Some routes cross Charles Bridge into Malá Strana or go up to Prague Castle. Teams hear the stories of the Astronomical Clock, the Old-New Synagogue, the Jan Hus monument and the Powder Tower, then solve puzzles in the stonework in front of them. For Key Stage 2, The Clockmaker's Curse takes about an hour and is the strongest choice. Save the Emperor suits Years 7 to 9. Alchemy and Dark Arts, in English, German or Polish, suits GCSE and sixth form. Quests cover ages 8 to 18.

Teams, supervision and logistics

  • Teams and supervision

Teams of 3 to 5 share one phone.

    MoreLess

Under-14s: one adult per 2 to 3 teams with agreed checkpoints; 14 to 18: school policy. Trams cross the centre and cannot stop quickly.

  • Getting around

Much of the Old Town and Malá Strana is car-free, so walk.

    MoreLess

PID metro, trams and buses have no group ticket; under-15s ride free, and a named pupil list can prove age.

  • Toilets

Most metro stations have paid toilets at 15 to 20 CZK, and municipal toilets stand by Goltz-Kinsky Palace on Old Town Square, on Kampa and at Malostranské náměstí.

    MoreLess

    Large shops are the fallback.

  • Lunch

Kampa, just below Charles Bridge, is free and open all year with lawns for a packed lunch.

    MoreLess

The Franciscan Garden between Wenceslas Square and Jungmann Square has benches but fills around noon.

  • Wet weather

The Municipal Library's Idiom book tower is free, though queues can be long; National Gallery permanent exhibitions are free on first Sundays.

    MoreLess

The quest can be replayed free within 30 days.

Caution: Pickpockets work the crowds on Charles Bridge and at the Astronomical Clock on Old Town Square, often in teams. Keep the team phone zipped away and regroup away from the crush.

Teacher FAQ

Questions about Prague

Which quest suits which age group?
For Key Stage 2 (ages 8 to 11), choose The Clockmaker's Curse or The Plague Doctor of Prague. For Years 7 to 9, Save the Emperor, Shadows over Prague and Franz Kafka's Prague work well. GCSE and sixth form groups can take Alchemy and Dark Arts, Ghost of the Crown or the Old Town Murder Mystery, which have darker themes. Use the free preview if your group sits near a boundary.
How long does a quest take?
The shortest is The Plague Doctor of Prague, at about 50 minutes and 1.7 km. The longest is Alchemy and Dark Arts, at about 2 hours and 5.2 km. Most school quests in Prague take 60 to 90 minutes on foot. Allow extra time for toilets and regrouping. Two shorter quests with a lunch break in between fit easily into one day.
How many pupils share a phone?
Teams of 3 to 5 pupils share one phone, so a class of 30 needs six to ten phones. Each one can be held by a member of staff or a pupil, as your school's policy allows. Teams can start a few minutes apart from the same point, so they do not all arrive at busy stops such as the Astronomical Clock together.
Where do we start?
Each quest has its own start point. The Clockmaker's Curse begins at the Powder Tower (Náměstí Republiky, Line B) and The Plague Doctor at the Statue of Charles IV by Charles Bridge. Shadows over Prague starts at the Old Town Bridge Tower, Ghost of the Crown on Wenceslas Square (Můstek) and Alchemy and Dark Arts at Palác Platýz. Check the exact spot in the free teacher preview.
How much does it cost?
5 euros per pupil. Teachers and accompanying adults go free. You can pay by card or ask for an invoice, which suits most school finance offices. There is no booking slot, so you can start whenever the class arrives and pause between stops if you need to.
What happens if it rains?
You can pause a quest, shelter and carry on later. If the weather ruins the day, you can replay the quest free within 30 days. For indoor cover near Old Town Square, the Old Town Hall visitor route takes in the chapel, historic halls and underground spaces. It needs tickets, so check prices and times in advance.
Do pupils need accounts or mobile data?
Pupils do not need accounts or phones of their own. Each team's phone needs mobile data during the quest, or the quest downloaded beforehand over hotel or school Wi-Fi. Check roaming on staff phones before you travel, and charge every phone the night before.
