The experience

About this quest

Play a city game to discover the strange events of Lisbon, one of the oldest European capital cities.

You’ll learn about the cultures that are still in today’s Lisbon, sometimes forgotten but more often dissimulated, such as Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Portuguese.

Are you ready to find out this city’s mysteries?

Is this for you?

Who it's for

From the Old Convent of the Holy Trinity, a 3.2 km loop takes in Castelo de S. Jorge, the Roman theatre and Lisbon Cathedral, then Arco da Rua Augusta, Carmo and Rossio. First-time visitors, couples and families with school-age children get Lisbon's Roman and Moorish layers in around 80 minutes. Anyone wanting a live guide to question, or an indoor plan for a rainy day, should pick something else.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the old town in Lisbon, and which parts does this walk cover?
The route links the main old town areas in one loop: Igreja de Santa Luzia, São Jorge Castle, the Roman Theatre museum, Lisbon Cathedral, the Baixa with the Monument to King José I and the Rua Augusta Arch, then Carmo Church and square, Rossio Square and the Santa Justa Lift.
Where does the walk start, and how long and far is it?
It starts and finishes at the Old Convent of the Holy Trinity, so you end up back where you began. The route is 3.2 km and takes around 80 minutes of walking and solving. You can pause at any point and continue later, for example to visit the castle or stop for lunch.
Does the route pass the statue of King José I?
Yes. The Monument to King José I is one of the stops, reached after Lisbon Cathedral and just before the Rua Augusta Arch. The app guides you there on foot from the previous stop, tells you the story of the place and sets a puzzle based on what you see around the monument.
Is it a good activity for kids?
It is tagged as kid friendly and recommended for families, and it suits school-age children best. Each puzzle is solved by looking at the place in front of you, which keeps children involved between stops. Plan for a 3.2 km walk and pauses whenever they need a break.
Do we need to book a time, and can we play as a group?
There is no time slot to book: start whenever you like, preferably during the day, and play at your own pace without a guide or other groups. One ticket covers your whole group, up to the number of devices stated, so everyone can follow the route and solve the puzzles together.
What stories does Old Town Lisbon: Strange Events explore?
The quest follows the traces left by Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, Moors and Portuguese people in Lisbon, using a fictional mystery to connect the city’s layered history.
Is this experience self-guided?
Yes. The Questo app guides you from clue to clue, with no guide or fixed start time. You can begin when it suits you and pause along the way.
How many accesses does our group need?
Classic quests sell access per device and player. Each person who wants to solve clues on their own phone needs their own access.
