Frequently asked questions

Is this walk about Nicolas Flamel?
Yes. The story follows Nicolas Flamel, the Parisian known from alchemy legend, and the mystery of his unexplained wealth. A strange drawing of his tombstone sets things off, and 12 enigmas lead you through his Paris, from Église Saint-Merry to Notre-Dame and Île de la Cité.
Where does the walk start and how far is it?
It starts and finishes at the Fontaine du Palmier, so it is a loop of about 3.3 km. Along the way you pass Église Saint-Merry, Fontaine Stravinsky, Place de l'Hôtel de Ville, the Notre-Dame parvis, Quai des Orfèvres, Square du Vert-Galant and Place Dauphine.
Is it good for kids?
It is tagged as a family favourite and the puzzles are medium difficulty, so it suits school-age children who like riddles, ideally with an adult helping on the trickier ones. Very young children may tire over the 3.3 km and lose interest in the enigmas.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No time slot is needed. You start whenever you like from your phone, and one ticket covers your whole group up to the number of devices stated. You can pause the quest, stop for a coffee along the Seine and continue later.
Is the route accessible for wheelchairs or pushchairs?
No. The route is not accessible for wheelchairs because of uneven terrain and stairs, so it is not a good choice for anyone who needs a step-free path. It is also an outdoor walk between the stops, so dress for the weather.
