Opened January 16, 1957, as a jazz club styled after Paris's Le Caveau, the Cavern became the epicenter of Liverpool's rock and roll scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The Beatles performed here an astounding 292 times between 1961 and 1963, including their final show on August 3, 1963, just one month after recording "She Loves You" and six months before their American invasion changed music forever. Brian Epstein discovered the band in this very venue and became their manager, securing the record contract that launched the British Invasion. The original club operated until 1965, then was demolished in 1973 to make way for an underground railway ventilation duct. But the Cavern Club rose again, rebuilt in 1984 on 75 percent of the original site using 15,000 reclaimed bricks from the original demolition.
