About this quest

Mainz, 1430. The city is on the brink of chaos. As young Johannes Gutenberg, you carry more than ink-stained fingers—you carry the fate of your family’s name and the future of the written word.

Patricians clash with guilds, and the relic of St. Martin, lost to time, may be the only key to peace. Solve clues hidden in ancient alleyways, follow whispers of history through cobbled streets, and retrace the steps of a legend.

This outdoor quest is a walking puzzle woven into the fabric of Mainz, where every discovery brings you closer to the relic—and to saving your legacy. Play with friends or family and create a story worth printing.

This self-guided walking tour in Mainz combines exploration, storytelling, and puzzle-solving into one unique experience. As you navigate through the city, you will discover 10 carefully selected locations, each revealing a piece of the story.

The mission: Your story in Mainz

It is the early 15th century, and Mainz is the scene of a struggle between the patricians and the guilds of the city.

The Gutenberg family risks being exiled, putting in jeopardy the promising printing experiments of young Johannes. Yet, providing the guilds with an ancient relic, passed on by generations of patricians, might quell the strife.

You are Gutenberg himself, on the hunt for the heirloom that was once of St. Martin.
