You are Elle Silver. Your father, cartographer and cryptologist at the British Museum has gone missing, accused of theft from the museum. In his clues he left a reference to John Houblon, 17th century governor of the Bank of England and member of the Guild of Merchant Explorers. 

This wealthy society had access to vast funds and an expertise in exploration for priceless artefacts from around the world.
