Frequently asked questions
I’m planning a romantic evening—what’s something memorable we could do together?
Walk the seaside promenade as the sun sets, then add a little intrigue with Estoril Highlights: The Spies’ Nest. Following secret-agent-style clues through elegant squares and ocean views turns a simple stroll into a playful, suspenseful date—equal parts adventure and slow, dreamy walk.
I’m visiting with my kids—any activity that will actually keep them entertained?
Yes! The town is safe and compact, with cafés and little parks for breaks. A self-guided treasure hunt is perfect: the story keeps kids curious, they get to run between clues, and you can pause anytime for snacks or gelato without worrying about a strict schedule.
We’re a group of friends—what can we do that’s fun and different from the usual beach day?
Challenge each other to a Questo mystery walk through Estoril’s old streets and oceanfront. Split into teams or work together to solve clues, uncover hidden gardens, and enjoy the lively vibe of cafés and tiled alleys. It’s like mixing an escape game with a seaside bar crawl.
What’s the best time of day to start exploring?
Morning gives you cool air and quiet streets. Late afternoon brings golden light over the Atlantic and feels romantic, while evenings are perfect if you want the mystery vibe and fewer crowds. Just make sure your phone is charged for photos and clues.
How long will we be out and is it difficult?
The experience usually takes around 60–90 minutes, depending on how many breaks you take. The walk is easy, mostly flat, and stroller-friendly. Bring comfy shoes and maybe a light jacket if you play in the evening.
About Estoril
Estoril's main beach is set just across the road from the palm-lined Parque do Estoril with its cafes and restaurants. Praia de Tamariz is a fine stretch of golden sand backed by a seafront promenade which runs all the way to Cascais in the west, and a couple of beaches in the Lisbon direction. The eastern end of the beach is somewhat dominated by the Forte da Cruz, a large faux castle which is apparently owned by the Monaco royal family.
This whole stretch of land at the mouth of the River Tejo abounds with elegant villas, grandiose hotels and quality bars and eateries all situated in a general atmosphere of luxury and tailored gardens. The Hotel Palácio, built in the 1930s, is legendary here and shares a palm lined park with the Casino Estoril. The largest casino of its kind in Europe, it offers concerts, cabaret, dancing and art exhibitions as well as high class gambling until 3am and was apparently the inspiration behind the James Bond character; indeed it features in the early Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
