You’ve broken your chains, now run. Set in the heart of Sydney Harbour, this immersive quest drops you into the boots of a 19th-century convict making a desperate escape from Cockatoo Island.
Once a prison for the colony’s most feared criminals, the island’s crumbling tunnels, towering guard posts, and eerie work yards hold both danger and the clues you need to break free. Solve puzzles, follow a trail of secrets, and walk through real history with every step.

Friends and families with older children visiting Cockatoo Island can explore its convict past on foot, playing an escaping prisoner. Over close to two hours and 3 km, puzzles lead you past Fitzroy Dock and through the Dog Leg Tunnel to the Convict Precinct. Choose something else if you want a live guide to question, or have small children who would tire on 3 km of tunnels and work yards.

How long does the quest take?
Most players take around 100 minutes, so allow close to two hours for the walking and the puzzles. The route covers about 3 km of the island. You can pause along the way and continue later if you want a break.
What was Cockatoo Island used for?
In the 19th century the island was a prison for the colony's most feared criminals. The quest casts you as a convict escaping from it, telling the story of places such as the docks, the Dog Leg Tunnel, the Historic Residence Precinct and the Convict Precinct as you go.
Does the route go through the Dog Leg Tunnel?
Yes. After Bolt Wharf the quest takes you to the tunnel's western entrance and then out at its eastern entrance, before continuing to the Historic Residence Precinct and finishing at the Convict Precinct.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at Cockatoo Island Ferry Wharf and finishes at the Convict Precinct, so it does not end where it began. On the way you pass the campground, the Chimney, the Coal Bunker, Sutherland Dock, Fitzroy Dock and Bolt Wharf.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
One ticket covers the whole group playing together. There is no set time and no guide to meet: start whenever you arrive on the island and pause if you need to. It is played outdoors, and playing at night is not recommended.
