Acerca de The Little Museum of Dublin
The Little Museum of Dublin is a small museum in a Georgian townhouse at 15 St Stephen's Green, Dublin. It tells the story of the city through everyday objects given by Dublin people, which makes it one of the friendliest introductions to the city's recent past.
The story behind it
The museum fills a Georgian house on the edge of St Stephen's Green. Its collection was built largely from items donated or loaned by Dublin residents, so the displays feel personal rather than grand. Instead of a single big narrative, you get the city's twentieth century through photographs, posters, letters and keepsakes.
Its themes range across Irish political and social history. They include the 1916 Rising and the 1963 visit of US President John F. Kennedy to Dublin, and there is also a display devoted to the band U2. A cafe, Hatch & Sons Irish Kitchen, sits in the basement.
What to look for
- The Georgian townhouse itself, with its brick front facing St Stephen's Green, is a good example of the elegant domestic architecture around this part of Dublin.
- The material on President Kennedy's visit shows how much the occasion meant to ordinary people in the city.
- The objects connected to the 1916 Rising give a human scale to a well-known moment in Irish history.
- The U2 display is a fun stop for music fans and shows how the band became part of Dublin's identity.
Tips for your visit
- Allow about an hour inside, and check current opening hours and whether you need to book ahead.
- The museum is quite small, so visits tend to be guided and personal. Check current details before you go.
- St Stephen's Green is directly across the road, which makes it an easy place for a walk before or after your visit.
- Grafton Street and much of central Dublin are a short stroll away, so it fits well into a day on foot.
