Yes, this is an outdoor escape-room-style game with a new story inspired by Frank L. Baum's original Oz novel from 1900. You team up with a band of misfits and crack puzzles to outsmart the witch, following clues from place to place around Oz Park, with original Oz-themed songs in the app.
Can we play The Oz Escape as a group outing or event?
Yes. It suits groups of friends, birthday and work groups, families and couples, and one ticket covers your whole group. You solve the puzzles together as a team on your phones. You can also play solo and compete against the leaderboard.
Where does it start and how long does it take?
You start near the entrance to the DePaul University School of Music on N Halsted St and finish back at the same spot. The route is about 2.4 km, taking in Oz Park, St. James Lutheran Church and streets around N Halsted, and takes around 90 minutes.
Do we need to book a time slot, and can we pause?
No booking slot is needed. Unlike a fixed-time indoor escape room, you start whenever suits you, with no guide or other group. If you need a break for food or a rest, you can pause the game and continue later from where you stopped.
Is it indoors or outdoors?
It is played outdoors on the streets and in Oz Park, so you walk between locations and solve puzzles using what is in front of you. Plan for the weather on the day, and since you can pause, you can wait out a shower and carry on afterwards.
