First-time visitors to Colonial Williamsburg, families with school-age children and educational groups will enjoy following historian Olivia Campbell as she gathers material for a novel, solving easy puzzles at the Tailor, the Joinery, Bruton Parish Church and the Governor's Palace. It covers 1.1 km in about 75 minutes, at your own pace. Anyone wanting a live guide to answer questions should choose a scheduled guided tour instead.

Is this a self-guided tour of Colonial Williamsburg?
Yes. You play it on your phone, and the app leads you from place to place through the Historic Area, tells the story of each spot and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, so you can start whenever you like.
Where does the walking tour start and finish, and how far is it?
The walk starts at Merchant Square and finishes at the Magazine, covering about 1.1 km. Along the way you pass the Tailor, the Joinery, the Colonial Garden, Bruton Parish Church, the George Wythe House, the Palace Green, the Governor's Palace, the James Geddy House and the Shoemaker. It does not return to the start.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take about 75 minutes, including the walking and the puzzles. You can pause at any point, for lunch or a longer look at one of the buildings, and continue later from where you stopped.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes. It is tagged family friendly and easy, and the puzzles are simple, which suits school-age children well. The story of an author researching colonial life gives them a reason to look closely at each trade shop, house and garden along the route.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
One ticket covers the whole group playing together on the same route. There is no time slot to book, since there is no guide or scheduled departure. You simply start at Merchant Square whenever your group is ready.
