Explore Amsterdão.

Amsterdam is one of Questo's most-played cities in the Netherlands, with 16 self-guided city quests spread across its historic centre, the Jordaan, and the canal ring. Open the app, follow clues on your phone, and let the city become a puzzle you solve at your own pace.

Few European cities reward slow, curious walking the way Amsterdam does. The canal belt shifts in light and mood every few blocks, the Jordaan's side streets are lined with 17th-century gabled houses, and neighbourhoods like the Jewish Quarter carry stories that most visitors never hear. Dam Square and Oude Kerk sit at the city's oldest core, but the real texture of Amsterdam lives in the details between those landmarks.

Quests here range across very different moods: the hidden scandals of the Red Light District, a love story set against the canal ring, ghost trails through the old city, the cursed houses of the Jordaan, and the waterways that shaped Amsterdam's rise as a trading power. There are also quests tracing the Jewish quarter's layered history.

For a local drink, Amsterdam's bruine kroegen (brown cafes) are worth seeking out. These neighbourhood bars, named for their tobacco-stained wooden interiors built up over generations, function as a kind of second living room for Amsterdammers. Café 't Smalle on Egelantiersgracht in the Jordaan is one of the oldest, opened in 1780 as a jenever distillery and still pouring on the same canal-side spot.

Questo's Amsterdam quests are rated 4.43★ across 454 player reviews. Good for couples, friend groups, families with older kids, and solo explorers who prefer their own route over a fixed schedule. Pick a story, step outside, and see how much the city was hiding.
