Starting and ending at Trinity Hospital, this 3 km loop passes Grey Friars, the Richard III Centre and Leicester Castle, cracking codes about the Wars of the Roses as you go. It suits visitors drawn here by the king and locals wanting an unhurried medieval afternoon of about 75 minutes. Pick something else if you want a live guide to question, or if dark medieval legends would upset your children.

It starts at Trinity Hospital and loops back there at the end, so you finish where you began. Along the way there are 15 stops, among them Leicester Market, St Nicholas Church, the Clock Tower, High Cross, Magazine Gateway, Castle Gardens and the Turret Gateway.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Plan on around 75 minutes to cover about 3 km on foot. You can pause whenever you like and continue later, and if it turns cold you can step inside to warm up at almost any location on the route. Playing at night is not recommended.

It suits older children and teenagers who enjoy cracking cryptic codes and clues. The story follows a shadowy society and includes dark legends from medieval Leicester and the Wars of the Roses, so younger children may find the puzzles hard and some tales grim.

There is no time slot to book and no guide to meet, so you can start whenever suits you. One ticket covers your whole group, playing together on your phones. Note that some checkpoints may have temporary construction work nearby.
