Families with school-age children and visitors spending a morning at Cottesloe can chase the Quokka Clan along the coast toward North Fremantle, solving puzzles at stops like the Vlamingh Memorial, the Dingo Flour Sign and the Cottesloe Sundial to recover stolen sculptures. Allow about two hours. The 6.2 km loop is all outdoors and gets hot later in the day, so toddlers, anyone who cannot walk that far, or people wanting shade or indoors should look elsewhere.

Along the way you will need to find permanent sculpture artwork to help you solve clues.
Please note: you do not need to participate during Sculptures by the Sea (Feb - March each year). You can do this challenge anytime.

Where does the pirate quest start and finish?
It starts and finishes at the Ocean Beach Hotel in Cottesloe. From there the route heads along the coast toward North Fremantle, passing Leighton Beach and North Fremantle Train Station, then loops back to Cottesloe, so you end up where you began.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. There is no fixed time, group or guide. You start whenever you like on your phone, and you can pause and continue later if you need a swim, a snack or a rest. One ticket covers your whole group, up to the number of devices stated.
Which stops are on the route?
After the Ocean Beach Hotel you visit the Cottesloe Nature Discovery Space, Vlamingh Memorial, Dingo Flour Sign, North Fremantle Train Station, Matilda Bay Brewing Company, Leighton Beach Parking, Dutch Inn Playground, Cottesloe Sundial, Arch Monument, Inspector J. Smith Monument and Centrefold, then return to the hotel.
Is it a good family activity for kids?
Yes, it is marked family friendly and suits school-age children who enjoy a pirate story and puzzles about what they can see. Keep in mind it covers 6.2 km and takes around two hours, which is a long walk for very young children.
What should we bring, and when is the best time to go?
The route is outdoors along the coast, so wear a hat and sunscreen and carry enough water for everyone. Mornings are the best time to play, before the heat builds, which also fits nicely with a morning at Cottesloe Beach.
