Yes. You play it on your phone with no guide and no group to join. The app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each stop and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. You can start whenever you like, and it is free to play.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at Federation Square and finishes at Queen Victoria Market, so it is not a loop. In between you pass Flinders Street Station, St. Paul's Cathedral, Hosier Lane, Degraves St, the Block and Royal Arcades, Bourke Street Mall, Chinatown, the State Library, Old Melbourne Gaol and Melbourne City Baths.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Most players take a little over two hours, walking and puzzles included, to cover about 3.6 km. There is no booked time slot, and you can pause the game and continue later if you want to stop for a coffee in the laneways or browse the arcades.
Does the route go past Flinders Street Station?
Yes. Flinders Street Station is the second stop, right after the start at Federation Square. The app tells its story and sets a puzzle there before leading you on towards St. Paul's Cathedral and the street art of Hosier Lane.
Is it good for kids, and can we play as a group?
It is tagged family friendly and works well for school-age children who can manage 3.6 km over a couple of hours, with puzzles to solve at each stop. It is also free to play, so families, couples and groups of friends can all join in together.
