It is an outdoor detective mystery rather than a locked room. You play on your phone while walking about 2 km through downtown Ottawa, solving puzzles set in the buildings and monuments in front of you, and deciding whether Rusty the leprechaun, pub owner Finn McGuire or the mayor took the shamrock.
What is this Ottawa treasure hunt about?
The Golden Shamrock has vanished and the town's luck is falling apart: clocks stop, signs fall and the bakery's ovens go cold. The app leads you from stop to stop, tells the story of each place and sets puzzles that help you work out which of three suspects is behind it.
Where does the hunt start?
It starts at the Bank of Canada Museum in downtown Ottawa. From there the route takes in places such as RBC Royal Bank, the Booth Building, Manulife Place, the Centennial Flame, the House of Commons of Canada and the Confederation Building.
How long does it take, and do we need to book a time?
Plan on around 90 minutes for the 2 km route. There is no set time slot and no guide to meet, so you can start whenever suits you, and you can pause the game and continue later if you want a break.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. You play without joining other people, and one ticket covers your whole group up to the number of devices stated. It works well for friends, couples and families who want to solve the mystery together while walking through the city.
