First-time visitors and history-minded day-trippers can follow Norwich's story in order, from the Saxons through the Normans, Tudors, Georgians and Victorians, passing the cathedral, Elm Hill, the castle and St Peter Mancroft along the way. Locals showing friends around get an easy afternoon plan with some lesser-known corners included. If you want a live guide to question, or cannot comfortably walk 4 km over nearly three hours, pick something shorter.

Is there a self-guided walking tour of Norwich?
Yes. This quest is a self-guided walk played on your phone. The app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each stop from Saxon to Victorian times, and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts in Tombland and finishes at The Forum, so it does not return to the start. In between you visit Norwich Cathedral, the Adam and Eve, Quayside, Elm Hill, Norwich Castle, St Peter Mancroft Church, Francis House, the Octagon Unitary Chapel, St George's Green and City Hall.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Players typically take nearly three hours, walking and puzzles included, and the route covers about 4 km. Since you can pause and continue later, you can split it with a break for food or a longer look inside one of the landmarks.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends or family can share a phone, read the stories aloud and work out the puzzles as a team while you walk the route.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No booking is needed. You can start whenever you like, pause at any point and pick up later where you left off. Note that some checkpoints may have temporary construction work nearby, so allow a little flexibility on the day.
