You are a visitor to New Orleans, looking to escape the noise and heat of the city.

You rode the streetcar to City Park, drawn by stories of ancient oaks and hidden wonders stretching across more than a thousand acres.

In the shade of crepe myrtles, you walk along Lelong Drive toward the New Orleans Museum of Art.

But something feels wrong. Vines are swallowing whole trees. The grass rises nearly to your waist.

To your right, the Big Lake spills far beyond its banks. This cannot be normal. Something in the park has gone badly out of balance.
