Is this a self-guided walking tour of Hanoi's Old Quarter?
Yes. You play it on your phone, and the app leads you from place to place, tells the story of each stop and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, and you can start whenever you like.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at the Old East Gate, Ô Quan Chưởng, and finishes at the Hà Nội Opera House, so it does not end where it began. Along the way you pass Phố Hàng Bạc, St. Joseph's Cathedral, the Pen Tower and Kem Tràng Tiền, with the app guiding you between stops.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Most players take about two and a quarter hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers 3.9 km through the Old Quarter and around Hoan Kiem Lake. You can pause and continue later if you want a break for food or coffee.
Can we do it at night, for example past St. Joseph's Cathedral?
The route is open 24/7, so you can play after dark, but it is better during daylight hours, when the streets, relics and details the puzzles rely on are easier to see. Since there is no time slot to book, you can simply start earlier in the day.
Can we play as a family or group?
Yes. The quest is tagged family friendly and fun to do as a couple, and one ticket covers the whole group playing together. You start any time without booking a slot, so it fits around a family day in the Old Quarter.
