Is this an outdoor escape room?
Yes. It is an escape-room-style game played outdoors on your phone. You follow clues to find each new location in central Adelaide and crack puzzles to outsmart the witch, in a story inspired by Baum's original 1900 Oz novel. Solo players can take on the challenges and compete on the leaderboard.
Where does it start and finish, and how long does it take?
You start at Adelaide Magistrates Court and finish at Three Rivers Fountain, passing the Norman Street Murals, Chinatown, the Onion Rings Sculpture, and the statues of Charles Sturt and Queen Victoria. The route is about 2 km, and most players take around two hours including the puzzles.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. You can team up with friends or family and solve the puzzles together, and one ticket covers the whole group playing together. If you prefer to go alone, you can tackle the witch's challenges solo and see how you rank on the leaderboard.
Do we need to book a time slot, and can we take a break?
No time slot is needed. There is no guide and no group to join, so you can start whenever suits you. You can also pause along the way, for food in Chinatown for example, and continue the game later from where you stopped.
Is it played outdoors if it rains?
The game is played outdoors on Adelaide's streets, moving between murals, sculptures, statues and the fountain over about 2 km. There is no indoor version of the route, so on a wet day bring a jacket, or start another time since you can begin whenever you like.
