The city packs a lot into a walkable core. The ByWard Market has been a working market since the 1820s and is still where people come to eat and browse. The Rideau Canal runs right through downtown and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Beyond the center you have the quiet, leafy streets of Rockcliffe Park, home to Stornoway, the official residence of the leader of the opposition, plus riverside parks and grand government buildings.
