First-time visitors, families and groups of friends get a playful leprechaun-gold hunt through downtown Portland, from the Benson Bubbler past Portlandia, Powell's City of Books and Voodoo Doughnut to Skidmore Fountain. It suits a St Patrick's Day outing and takes about 2.5 hours over 2.6 km. Some tales involve kidnappings and dismembered bodies, so parents of easily frightened young children may want something gentler.

Is this a self-guided walking tour of downtown Portland?
Yes. You play it on your phone, and the app leads you from place to place. At each stop it tells the story of the spot and sets a puzzle based on what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the Benson Bubbler and finishes at Skidmore Fountain, so it is not a loop. In between you pass Portlandia, the gates of the old Portland Hotel, the Weather Machine, Powell's City of Books, the Gates of Chinatown, Voodoo Doughnut and the White Stag Sign.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take about 2.5 hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers about 2.6 km through downtown and Old Town, so it is easy to fit into a morning or afternoon.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends or a family can follow the route and work on the puzzles side by side on the walk from the Benson Bubbler to Skidmore Fountain.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No booking of a time slot is needed. You can start whenever suits you, and if you want to stop for doughnuts, coffee or a browse in Powell's, you can pause the quest and continue later.
