How Can We Help?

Everything you need to know about exploring cities with Questo.

Getting Started

What is Questo?

Questo is a mobile app that turns cities into playgrounds. You follow clues, solve puzzles, and discover hidden stories as you walk through real cities, all at your own pace. Think of it as a mix between a scavenger hunt, an escape room, and a self-guided walking tour, delivered through your smartphone. Questo is available in over 1,000 cities worldwide, with quests crafted by a global community of 30,000+ local storytellers and historians.

How does Questo work?

Download the Questo app (free on iOS and Android), browse quests in your city, and pick one that interests you. Once you start a quest, the app guides you through the city with a story, clues, and puzzles. You walk from location to location, solving challenges along the way. There's no schedule, you play whenever you want, at your own pace.

Is the Questo app free?

Yes, the Questo app is free to download and use. Individual quests have their own pricing, and some free quests are available. Once you purchase a quest, you own it forever, play it whenever you want.

What cities is Questo available in?

Questo is available in over 1,000 cities across the world, from New York, London, Paris, and Rome to smaller hidden gems. Browse available quests by city directly in the app or at questoapp.com.

How do I get started with my first quest?

  1. Download the Questo app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Create an account (use the same email you used for any purchase).
  3. Browse quests in your city or a city you're visiting.
  4. Purchase or unlock a quest, tap "Play," and start exploring!

Who creates the quests?

Questo quests are created by a global community of over 30,000 local storytellers, historians, tour guides, and creators. Each quest is handcrafted by someone who knows and loves the city, so you get authentic stories and hidden gems you won't find in typical guidebooks.

Playing Quests

How long does a quest take?

Most quests take between 60 and 120 minutes, depending on your walking pace and how much time you spend at each stop. The quest page shows an estimated duration and distance before you start. You can always pause and continue later.

Can I play a quest at any time?

Yes. Once you purchase a quest, you can play it whenever you want, day or night, weekday or weekend. There's no fixed schedule unless explicitly noted on the quest page (some event-based quests may have time windows).

Can I pause a quest and continue later?

Yes, you can pause at any time. Close the app and your progress is saved. When you come back, you'll pick up right where you left off. However, if you're in the middle of solving a timed puzzle, the timer keeps running until you solve it.

Do I need an internet connection to play?

You need internet to download the quest and start playing. After that, most quests can be played with limited connectivity. However, we recommend having mobile data available since some features use GPS and maps for navigation.

How much phone battery does a quest use?

A quest typically uses 15–25% of battery over 1–2 hours (similar to using Google Maps). We recommend starting with at least 50% battery. A portable charger is a smart idea for longer quests.

What happens if I get stuck on a clue?

Every puzzle has a built-in help system. Tap the "Help" button during gameplay to get a hint (costs some XP but helps you move forward), or reveal the full answer if you're truly stuck (you won't earn XP for that challenge, but you can continue the quest).

Can I replay a quest?

Yes, you can replay any quest you've purchased. Some players replay quests with different friends or family members to share the experience.

How do I change the language of a quest?

After downloading a quest in the app, you will tap on Start, and then a pop-up will open asking you to choose the language in which you want to play.

Is Questo suitable for kids and families?

Absolutely. Questo quests are family-friendly and a great way to get kids exploring outdoors. Many families use Questo as a way to make city walks fun and educational. Kids of all ages can participate, younger children may need help reading clues, while teenagers often get competitive and love the puzzle-solving aspect.

Is Questo accessible for people with mobility challenges?

Quest routes vary in accessibility. Some quests follow flat, paved routes suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, while others may include stairs or uneven terrain. Check the quest description for route details before starting, or contact our support team for specific accessibility questions.

Purchases & Billing

How do I unlock a quest I purchased on another platform?

If you purchased a quest on TripAdvisor, Viator, GetYourGuide, Fever, or another platform, go to questoapp.com/unlock, enter your booking reference code and the email address you used for the purchase, then download the app and log in with that same email.

Where do I find my booking reference code?

Your booking reference code is in the confirmation email from the platform where you purchased. For TripAdvisor/Viator, it starts with "BR", enter only the characters after "BR." For Fever purchases, it starts with "FE."

My unlock code isn't working. What should I do?

First, check if the quest is already unlocked in your profile, it may have been activated automatically. Make sure you are logged in the app with your correct email, not with an Apple ID or with an email address with a typo. If not, make sure you're entering the code correctly (for TripAdvisor/Viator, don't include the "BR" prefix, just the characters after it). If the issue persists, contact our support team at questoapp.com/chat.

I logged in with Apple ID and can't find my purchased quest.

Apple's "Hide My Email" feature creates a private relay address that may not match the email you used for your purchase. To fix this, go to your Questo account settings and change your email to match the one you used when booking. Alternatively, contact our support team at questoapp.com/chat and we'll sort it out.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. If you contact our support team at least 24 hours before your planned play time, or if technical issues prevent you from playing, we'll process your refund within 24 hours. Reach us at questoapp.com/chat or care@questoapp.com.

How do I get a receipt for my purchase?

If you didn't receive a receipt automatically, email finance@questoapp.com with your booking details and we'll send one over.

What payment methods does Questo accept?

Questo accepts major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and various local payment methods depending on your region. Payments made through third-party platforms (TripAdvisor, Viator, etc.) follow those platforms' payment options.

Groups & Multiplayer

Can I play a quest with friends or family?

Yes! Questo is designed to be played together. Most quests support group play, you can play as a couple, a family, a friend group, or even a large team. One device per group is typically enough, though larger groups sometimes split into teams for a competitive twist.

How do I invite others to play with me?

Go to your profile in the app, select "Quest Invites," and use the "Send invites" feature to activate multiplayer mode. Share the invite link with your group. Once everyone has joined, start the quest whenever you're ready.

Do all players need to buy the quest?

It depends on how you want to play. If you want to play in multiplayer and compete one against the other, then you can have either one player buying multiple tickets, then using the Quest invite feature to unlock the quest for the rest of the group, or every player can buy their own access, and then create a multiplayer session by tapping on the (...) button on the quest page.

Can I use Questo for team building or corporate events?

Yes. Questo is used by companies for team building, onboarding, and corporate outings. Quests naturally encourage teamwork, communication, and problem-solving. For group bookings or custom team-building quests, contact us at finance@questoapp.com.

Yes. Many teachers and educators use Questo as an interactive outdoor learning experience. Quests blend history, geography, observation skills, and teamwork, making them a natural fit for school trips and field days. Contact us for educator pricing and group options.

Strong quests have a clear narrative arc, varied challenge types, and "wow moments" that surprise players.

Where do events take place?

Events take place outdoors in easily accessible, appealing, and safe parts of the city. The exact starting location is typically revealed 1–2 weeks before the event via email.

Technical & Troubleshooting

Which devices does Questo support?

Questo works on iPhones (iOS 14+) and Android phones (Android 8+). We recommend using a device with GPS capabilities and a recent operating system for the best experience.

The app isn't loading or is crashing. What should I do?

Try these steps: (1) Make sure you have the latest version of the Questo app installed. (2) Restart the app. (3) Check your internet connection. (4) Restart your phone. If the issue continues, contact our support team at questoapp.com/chat, we're available 24/7.

GPS or location isn't working properly during a quest.

Make sure location services are enabled for the Questo app in your phone settings (set to "Always" or "While Using"). If GPS is inaccurate, try moving to an open area away from tall buildings, and ensure Wi-Fi is turned on (it helps with location accuracy even if you're using mobile data).

How do I contact Questo support?

Our support team is available 24/7. You can reach us through live chat at questoapp.com/chat, by email at care@questoapp.com, or through the in-app chat. We respond fast and speak multiple languages.

About Questo

How is Questo different from a regular guided tour?

With a guided tour, you follow a group on a set schedule, listening to a guide. With Questo, you're the explorer, you go at your own pace, make your own discoveries, and solve puzzles along the way. It's more interactive, more flexible, and more personal. You choose when to start, when to pause, and how fast to go.

How is Questo different from a regular audio tour?

Audio tours narrate information as you walk. Questo is interactive, instead of just listening, you're actively solving clues, making decisions, and engaging with your surroundings. It's gamified exploration, not passive listening.

Is Questo only for tourists?

No. Questo is actually even more relevant in your own city. Most people haven't explored the hidden corners and untold stories of where they live. Questo quests help you rediscover your own city with fresh eyes, perfect for date nights, family weekends, or just breaking your routine.

How many people have used Questo?

Over 1,000,000 people have explored cities through Questo quests, across 1,000+ cities worldwide.

Is Questo safe?

Yes. All quest routes are designed to follow public, well-traveled paths. Quests are reviewed before publication. That said, always be aware of your surroundings, follow traffic rules, and watch where you're walking, especially when you're focused on solving a clue!
