Couples, friends and small groups who enjoy a spooky legend can follow a missing friend's trail from Porta al Prato through Piazza Grande and down into the De Ricci wine cellar, finishing at Tempio di San Biagio. Allow about 1.5 to 2 hours for 2.1 km of old-town streets and cryptic puzzles. If you want a proper wine tasting or a live guide, choose something else.

What is the Montepulciano vampire story about?
Your friend Luigi became obsessed with a dark secret buried beneath the town and has vanished. Locals whisper of ancient vampires living in the caves and cellars below. You follow the trail he left, solving cryptic puzzles as you walk the twisting streets and underground passages of Montepulciano.
Does the route go through Piazza Grande?
Yes. Piazza Grande is the sixth stop, reached after the San Francesco Viewpoint. From there the route continues to the Fortezza Medicea and the Palazzo Comunale before heading into the De Ricci Wine Cellar. The app guides you from stop to stop, so you do not need a separate map.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at Porta al Prato and finishes at Tempio di San Biagio, so it is not a loop. Along the way you pass the Colonna del Marzocco, Piazza delle Erbe, Piazza Grande, the De Ricci Wine Cellar and Porta dei Grassi, covering about 2.1 km in total.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take about an hour and three quarters, walking and puzzles included, so plan on 1.5 to 2 hours. You can pause at any point, stop for a coffee or a glass of wine, and continue later from where you left off.
Do we need to book a time, and can we play as a group?
There is no time slot to book and no group to join. You start whenever you like on your phone. The quest is free to play, so friends or a couple can simply set off together and solve the puzzles as a team.
