What is this Mont Saint-Michel quest?
It is a self-guided game played on your phone. The app leads you from the island's gate up to the abbey, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle in what is in front of you. There is no guide and no group to join, and you can start whenever you like.
Where does the walk start and which places does it visit?
It starts at the Gate of the Mont St Michel and passes Hotel La Mère Poulard, the walls with their view over Main Street, the old pilgrims' waiting hall, the West Terrace, the cloister, the Aubert sculpture and St Etienne Chapel. The last stop is the Knight's Hall and Scriptorium.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take about an hour and a half, walking and puzzles included, over a route of 0.8 km with steps up onto the walls. You can pause at any point and continue later, so there is time for a meal or a longer look around.
Is it suitable for children?
It is recommended for families, and it suits school-age children who can manage the climb and enjoy solving puzzles about the abbey, its monks and the pilgrims who came here from the 8th century. Younger children may find the steps and the length tiring.
Do we need phone signal, and can a group play together?
