Colombo Fort has survived four centuries of empires, wars and rebuilding booms, mostly by staying useful, not by standing still. In 1980, architect Ronald Lewcock is rumoured to have listed the Fort's buildings worth saving. Nobody can find that list online today.

Your mission is to assist a small heritage-conservation collective finish what it started: tracing eleven buildings' real chain of title - who built them, who owns them now, and what kept them standing through two centuries of change.

Most of what you'll find is a genuine conservation story. A couple of stops will surprise you.
