Why is York officially declared the most haunted city in Europe? Tonight, you find out why.
The "Veil", an ancient magical barrier that keeps York’s restless dead at bay is fracturing. The city’s protector, Keeper Elspeth Crowe, has vanished into the mist, leaving behind only a trail of panicked scribbles and arcane sigils. The barrier is failing, and the spirits are getting bold.
You are the city's last line of defense.
Step into the shoes of a paranormal investigator and pick up Elspeth’s trail where she left off. Your journey will take you from the blood-stained stones of Clifford’s Tower to the phantom legions buried beneath the Treasurer's House. You will navigate the medieval snickelways, confront tragedies etched in stone, and race to seal the breach before the clock strikes twelve.
The history books tell you what happened. This quest tells you who is still lingering. Will you mend the Veil before the dead rise unbound, or will you become just another whisper in the walls of York?

Adults, couples and groups of friends drawn to York's haunted reputation can follow a ghost story at their own pace, from the King's Arms Pub past Clifford's Tower, the Golden Fleece and York Minster to the Guildhall. You play a paranormal investigator tracking a vanished Keeper through puzzles, over about 1.5 hours and 2.4 km. Anyone wanting a live guide's lantern-lit storytelling, or with young children who scare easily, should choose something else.

Is York really the most haunted city in Europe?
York is widely called the most haunted city in Europe, and this quest is built around finding out why. As a paranormal investigator you chase a missing Keeper through old inns, churches and landmarks, from Clifford's Tower to York Minster, while the barrier holding back the city's restless dead starts to fail.
Where does the ghost walk start and finish?
It starts at The King's Arms Pub and finishes at York Guildhall, so it is not a loop. On the way you pass Clifford's Tower, St Mary's Church, the Golden Fleece Inn, the Black Swan Inn, Bedern Hall, St William's College, Treasurer's House, York Minster and the House of Trembling Madness.
How long does it take, and do we need to book a time?
Most players take around an hour and a half, walking and puzzles included, over 2.4 km. There is no time slot to book: start whenever suits you, pause along the way and continue later, which makes it easy to stop for a drink at one of the inns on the route.
Is it suitable for children?
It is a horror and haunts story aimed mainly at adults, about restless spirits breaking through a failing barrier, and several stops are pubs. Teenagers who enjoy spooky tales may like it alongside adults, but young children who scare easily would be better suited to a different quest.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together on a phone, so friends or couples can solve the puzzles side by side. There is no guide and no other group to join, so you set your own pace between stops.
