What is the Rotterdam spy game about?
It is set on 10 May 1940, as the German invasion begins. You play MI6 agent Sparrow, helping the Dutch resistance and tracking down enemy agents who have slipped into the city. Your phone leads you through Rotterdam's historic heart, telling the story of each place and setting puzzles in what you see there.
Where does the spy walk start and finish?
It starts at West-Kruiskade 484 and finishes at the House of spies, so it does not end where it began. In between you pass Schouwburgplein, City Hall, Nieuwe Delftse Poort, the Erasmus stops, the Schaakstukken Museum and the Old Harbour, covering about 2.5 km.
Does the route go to the Oude Haven in Rotterdam?
Yes. The Old Harbour (Oude Haven) is the second-to-last stop, reached after the Schaakstukken Museum and just before the finish at the House of spies. The app guides you there on foot, so you do not need a separate map.
How long does it take and is it suitable for kids?
Most players take a little over two hours, walking and puzzles included, over about 2.5 km. The puzzles are rated medium difficulty and the story deals with wartime spying, so it suits teenagers best. Younger children may need plenty of help from adults.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
