Families with school-age children and visitors spending a morning at Cottesloe follow a pirate chase along the coast, tracking the Quokka Clan past the Vlamingh Memorial and the Dingo Flour Sign. It takes about three hours to walk 6.2 km from Ocean Beach Hotel to North Fremantle Train Station. Young children who tire quickly, or anyone wanting shade on a hot afternoon, should pick something shorter.

Along the way you will need to find permanent sculpture artwork to help you solve clues.
Please note: you do not need to participate during Sculptures by the Sea (Feb - March each year). You can do this challenge anytime.

Is there a pirate-themed trail in Perth?
Yes. This self-guided pirate game runs along the coast from Cottesloe toward North Fremantle. You track the Quokka Clan, who have stolen artwork sculptures, and solve puzzles at landmarks such as the Cottesloe Sundial, the Arch Monument and Leighton Beach Parking, all played on your phone with no guide.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. You start whenever you like at Ocean Beach Hotel, with no group to join and no guide to meet. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, and you can pause the game and continue later if you stop for a swim or a meal.
How long does it take, and when is the best time to go?
Allow about three hours for the 6.2 km route, walking and puzzles included. Mornings are best to avoid the heat, as the walk is outdoors along the coast. Wear a hat and sunscreen and bring enough water for everyone.
Is it good for kids?
It is family friendly and suits school-age children who can manage a 6.2 km walk over about three hours. The route passes the Dutch Inn Playground and the Cottesloe Nature Discovery Space, which make natural breaks. Very young children may find the distance long.
