Atarazanas is Malaga's central market, a 19th-century iron hall built onto the stone horseshoe-arch gateway of the Nasrid shipyards that once stood on this spot, when the sea came much further inland. A huge stained-glass window at one end throws colour across the fish and produce stalls. Come hungry and mid-morning.

Plaza de la Constitución has been Malaga's main square since the Nasrid period and sits at the top of Calle Larios, the marble-paved shopping street. The Genoa fountain in the middle is a Renaissance piece. In August the square is the centre of the city's feria.
