Groups of friends, couples and families with teens who like escape rooms but not booked time slots get a 2.2 km Beverly Hills loop of witch-themed puzzles, passing the Wallis, City Hall and the Mr Brainwash Art Museum in around 100 minutes. Yes, this is an outdoor, escape-room-style game played on your phone in Beverly Hills. The story is inspired by L. Frank Baum's original 1900 Oz novel, and you crack the witch's puzzles using what you see at each stop, with original Oz-themed songs along the way.
Where does it start and finish, and how far is the walk?
You start at the Beverly Hills Sign in Beverly Gardens Park on Santa Monica Blvd and walk a 2.2 km loop past spots such as the Wallis Annenberg Center, Beverly Hills City Hall and the Mr Brainwash Art Museum, finishing back in the park at the public art piece 'The Drummer'.
How long does the game take?
Most players take around 100 minutes, so plan on close to two hours including walking and solving the puzzles. You can pause the game and continue later if you want a break for food or shopping along the route.
Can we play as a group, or solo?
Both work. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, so friends, couples or families can team up to outsmart the witch. If you prefer to play alone, you can take on the challenges solo and compete against the leaderboard.
Do we need to book a time slot?
No. Unlike an indoor escape room, there is no fixed slot to book and no group to join. You start whenever you like at the Beverly Hills Sign, play at your own pace outdoors, and pause and resume later if needed.
