Not quite. It is an outdoor, self-guided walk played on your phone. The app leads you through 12 stops in Mayfair, tells the story of each place and sets puzzles in what is in front of you, while you play a paparazzo hunting for the next big scoop.
What kind of stories does the Mayfair quest tell?
Tales of fame, fortune and scandal in Mayfair's smart streets, where aristocrats mingle with artists. Stops include The Lansdowne Club, the Heywood Hill bookshop, the Eagle Squadrons Memorial, Jimi Hendrix's blue plaque and St George's Church, each with its own story and puzzle.
Where does it start and finish?
It starts at the Australian War Memorial and finishes at the Royal Academy of Arts, so it does not return to the start. The route covers about 3.3 km through Mayfair, passing The Lanesborough, Turmeaus Cigars & Whisky, Delfino and Maurice Sedwell along the way.
How long does it take, and can we pause?
Most players take around two hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. There is no set time to book: start whenever suits you, pause for a coffee or a break, and continue later. It is best played during the day.
Can we play as a group or with kids?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, and there is no group to join or guide to wait for. It is recommended for families, best suited to children old enough to enjoy solving clues and walking a few kilometres.
