Acerca de Las Vegas Ballpark
Las Vegas Ballpark is a baseball stadium in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas, Nevada, and the home of the Las Vegas Aviators, the city's Triple-A team. It opened in 2019 and sits beside Downtown Summerlin, so it is a very different side of the city from the Strip: suburban, open and set against the desert mountains.
The story behind it
Professional baseball in Las Vegas had long been played at Cashman Field near downtown. The team there, then known as the 51s, moved west to a new purpose-built park in Summerlin, and the ballpark opened in the spring of 2019. The team took the name Aviators at the same time.
The name is a nod to the city's aviation history and to Howard Hughes, whose business ties to Las Vegas run deep. Summerlin itself is named after his grandmother, Jean Amelia Summerlin, and the master-planned community grew up on land linked to the Hughes name. The ballpark is part of that story of Las Vegas spreading out into the western valley.
What to look for
- The aviation theme in the team's name and branding, which ties the stadium to the Howard Hughes story of the area.
- The setting beside Downtown Summerlin, where a sports venue, shops and restaurants share the same neighbourhood.
- The mountain backdrop to the west, a reminder that Red Rock country is close to this part of town.
- The contrast with the neon of the Strip, since this is everyday suburban Las Vegas built around open-air evenings.
Tips for your visit
- You can see the outside of the ballpark at any time, but going inside normally means attending a game or event, so check the current schedule before you come.
- Allow about 20 to 30 minutes if you are only looking at the exterior and the surrounding streets, or a full evening if you are going to a game.
- In summer the desert heat is strong, so early morning or evening is the most comfortable time to walk around the area.
- Downtown Summerlin is right next door, which makes it easy to combine the stop with a meal, a coffee or some shopping.
See it on a quest
The ballpark is one stop on Murder Mystery: Death in the Shadows in Summerlin, Las Vegas. You reach it on foot as part of a longer route through the Summerlin area, the app tells you about each place as you arrive, and you solve a puzzle based on what is in front of you. It suits anyone who wants a murder mystery theme rather than a plain sightseeing stop. It is a paid quest, and one ticket covers the whole group, so you can start whenever you like, with no guide and no group to join.
