Is this a self-guided port wine tour in Porto?
Yes. You walk the Vila Nova de Gaia riverside with your phone, passing historic Port houses such as Caves Cálem, Kopke, Sandeman, Espaço Porto Cruz and Caves Ferreira. Audio stories cover the Douro, British influence and production secrets, and puzzles help you learn the styles and decode the trading houses' symbols.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at Ribeira Square and crosses to the Gaia side via Cais da Ribeira de Gaia, then runs past the wine houses and Mercado Beira-Rio. It finishes at Socrenaval, the Douro river shipyard, not back at the start, so plan your onward route from there.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take about 1 hour 45 minutes, including walking and puzzles, over roughly 2.1 km. The difficulty is rated easy. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water, and make sure your phone is fully charged or carry a power bank.
Do we need to book a time, and can we pause?
No booking is needed. You can start whenever you like, there is no group to join and no guide to wait for. You can pause at any point, for example to stop for a tasting, and continue the route later.
Can we play as a couple or a group, and does it cost anything?
The quest is free to play, so couples, friends or a larger group can all follow it together at their own pace. It is especially popular with couples looking for a relaxed, story-led walk along the river.
