Is this a tour of the Flatiron Building?
It is a self-guided walk in which the Flatiron Building is one of 15 stops. Your phone tells its story and sets a puzzle there, alongside other Flatiron District and Gramercy sights such as the MetLife Tower, Madison Square's monuments, the Empire State Building and the Appellate Court.
Where does the walk start and finish?
It starts at the Union Square Drinking Fountain and finishes at the Fifth Avenue Building Clock, so it does not return to the start. On the way you pass Pete's Tavern, Gramercy Park, the Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building and the Church of the Transfiguration.
How long does it take and how far is it?
Most players take about two hours, including walking and solving the puzzles. The route covers 3.5 km through the Flatiron and Gramercy neighbourhoods. You can pause at any point and continue later, so there is time for a coffee or a longer look at a building.
Can we play as a family or group?
Yes. The quest is tagged family friendly and fun for couples, and one ticket covers the whole group playing together on one phone. It suits school-age children who enjoy stories and puzzles and can manage a 3.5 km walk of around two hours.
Do we need to book a time?
No. There is no group to join and no guide, so you start whenever you like and play at your own pace. The route is open 24/7, but it is better during daylight hours, when the architecture is easiest to see and the puzzles easier to solve.
