Friends, couples and solo visitors who like books and pubs get a 1.5 km walk from the Beehive Inn past James' Court, Makars' Court and Brodie's Close to Milnes Bar, with Old and New Town stories and puzzles at each stop. It takes just over an hour, with easy to medium puzzles. Groups with under-18s should look elsewhere, as some pubs may refuse them entry.

Yes, it combines literary and historical stories with pubs. The route includes the Beehive Inn, the Jolly Judge, Deacon Brodies Tavern and Milnes Bar, along with Makars' Court and the Scott Monument. You go at your own pace and decide how long to linger at each pub.
Where does the tour start and finish, and how long does it take?
You start at the Beehive Inn and finish at Milnes Bar, so it does not return to the start. The route is about 1.5 km and most players take just over an hour, walking and puzzles included. The start is easy to reach from Waverley station.
Can we bring children or teenagers under 18?
The quest itself works fine with under-18s, and the puzzles range from easy to medium. Pubs set their own rules, though, and some may restrict entry for younger players. Check with each pub on the day if anyone in your group is under 18.
