Yes, as a self-guided walk played on your phone. You play a detective in 1961 who gets a tip that the Strangler will strike three times today. The app leads you through Back Bay and Fenway, tells the story of each place and sets a puzzle there. There is no guide.
Is this a murder mystery game or scavenger hunt we can play in Boston?
It works like an outdoor murder mystery scavenger hunt. You follow real-world clues at 13 stops, including the First Church of Christ, Scientist, the Japanese Bell, the Red Sox statues and Lansdowne Street, solving puzzles in what is in front of you to stop the killer.
Where does the quest start and finish?
It starts at the Hynes Convention Center subway stop and finishes at the location formerly known as the Hotel Buckminster, after crossing the David Ortiz Bridge near Fenway Park. It is not a loop, so plan your onward trip from the finish.
How long does it take and how far is the walk?
Most players take around two and a quarter hours, walking and puzzles included, over about 3.7 km. You can pause and continue later. Weekdays during working hours are quieter if you want to avoid large crowds.
Can we play as a group, and do we need to book a time?
Yes. One ticket covers the whole group playing together, which suits friends and families with teens. There is no set time to book and no group to join, so start whenever you like. No attraction tickets are required along the route.
